Mile High

I spent my Friday at Mile High stadium, where the Bronco's play, for a meeting I organized with the Consulting practice I work for. While I'm normally a Redskins fan, and cheer more for college sports than professional, I really enjoyed getting an A-list view of the field from the Budweiser Champions Room! The food was wonderful through Centerplate Catering, and I probably ate one too many French fries! Hope you have a fun Friday...I need a cocktail!

Mt. Evans--a touch of winter!

One of the many fabulous things about the state of Colorado is our easy access to the mountains. While in general I am a beach lover, I do love the exercise hiking provides and you get to see some amazing views. This past week my boyfriend A's mom (Mama D) was in town and we wanted to make sure she got a taste of them. We woke up early on Saturday morning (much to Peanut's dismay) and bundled up to leave for Mt. Evans. By the time we arrived some 11,000+ altitude feet later, the weather had chilled around 20 degrees--good thing we had our trusty Ohio State blanket in the trunk to bundle up in! While we couldn't get all the way up to the summit because it was closed due to weather conditions, we did get to visit Echo Lake on the mountain which was absolutely gorgeous! We even witnessed two teenage boys stripping down to their boxers to jump into the frigid water--crazy but a good story I'm sure! This day trip made me get excited for our upcoming winter weekends skiing at Vail, Keystone, Breckenridge, and Beaver Creek. Hopefully this year I feel more confident on my skiis so I can keep up with my man and our ski buddies! I certainly have gathered quite the collection of cute ski layers especially in terms of zipups...I am however looking for some warm and cute ski hats which will most likely have to
be it's own post!

Dressing as a Winter Wedding Guest

So my Mom is going to a Mid Fall/Early Winter wedding that is going to be "fancy but not too fancy" and she needed some help searching for potential dress options, and I was of course up to the task. I didn't want to cover her up too much and give her a too "old" look since she has a rockin' bod, but I also wanted the dress to be weather appropriate and give her coverage where many ladies her age like it: chest and arms. I also slipped in a few dresses I'd personally like to own for a more conservative event ;-)...though most of these are age appropriate for anyone.

(click on the blue hyper-links to order online):

Dress #1:

Eliza J Lace & Faille Dress from Nordstroms
I LOVE the look of this dress for a fall or winter wedding. The lace is so delicate and the pockets on the dress make me want to twirl. At the same time, this dress is grownup, sexy, and appropriate. For a colder evening I would wear a gold-beige scarf wrap, and gold strappy heels--I often see great pashmina scarf wraps at Nordstrom Rack or my local TJ Maxx!

Dress #2:

$138   Adrianna Papell Soutache Skirt Blouson Dress from Norstroms
I love the detail in the skirt of this dress, and the color is such a pretty winter grey/purple! I tend to think that shift-type dresses are forgiving and flattering on most all shapes.

 Dress #3:

$69.30 Anne Klein Animal Print Long Sleeve Dress

I really love this modern take on animal print.! It would be a lovely and comfortable dress for a fall or winter wedding, and could also be paired with stockings and flat boots for a day at the office, drinks with friends, and could even be worn to church with a nude ballet flat or pump. I like the shape and length of this dress for any age, and if you’re feeling a bit sultry you could take the buttons down a few ;-).  On sale for $69.30 at Bloomingdales, this is a piece I would love to see my mother in because it would show off her pilates body and amp up the color in her wardrobe!  With black stockings and black heels this would be fabulous—maybe add some gold or silver small hoops.

Dress #4:

For a girl in her 20's and shopping on a budget, this $27.80 from Forever21 dress is a great option! The back of this dress is amazing, and the great fit and color would be awesome on many complexions. Throw on a cardigan, and you could probably pull this off for a work-to-date look!

Dress #5:
Knot Front Sheath Banana Republic $120.00

I'm really leaning towards my Mom wearing this to the late fall/early winter wedding. It would be a stunning fit on my mom, and you could style this dress in so many ways that I guarantee it would be a staple in any woman's closet. I really enjoy that this dress provides coverage, while still having fabulous details in the knot. The detailing up above is also a good way to distract from lower body insecurities.

Dress #6:

This dress looks very rich for $27.80 from Forever21 and reminds me of why I actually don’t mind digging through the racks at this store! I probably need to add this to my mass collection of Forever21 dresses....hey, at least you don't feel guilty if you drop a cocktail or appetizer on it...or ruin it in the wash!

Dress #7:

While I like the idea of a peplum, I honestly don’t think it really "works" that well on someone under the height of 5’8” unless you’re super skinny! Maybe one day I'll find a peplum that I love.

Dress #8:
Karen Kane Ruffle Front Zip Dress from Bloomingdales $53.76

This is such a sweet LBD and I’m loving the flattering affect of the centralized rouching. I really like the cap sleeves that bring this dress from warmer weather into chilly fall and winter. The V-neck is the perfect depth, and the length makes this dress sultry but not slutty! Again you could really dress this up for an event, or make it perfect for a day in the office with an animal print cardigan, stockings and knee height boots.

Dress #9:

DKNYC Short Sleeve Shift Dress with Chiffon from Bloomingdales
I love the Chiffon details of this LBD, It still allows for appropriate coverage for an evening wedding or cocktail party, but the chiffon cutouts are both sweet and playful. Originally $139, and now on sale for $58.38, you can’t really beat the price for such a chic look.

Dress #10:

For a budget friendly black dress with a little bit of leather edge, this Banana Republic dress for $130.00 has faux-leather trim on the pockets and neckline and is a beautiful, classic shape! I personally think this dress would look awesome with a bright statement necklace, or bright neon heels...or black booties!

Dress #11:

A lesson on how to NOT dress within a budget beautifully...
$795 Polyanna Leather Sleeve Dress from Bloomingdales

What’s not to LOVE about this lambskin leather sleeved , wool dress? It would be perfect for a winter event with black stockings and heels (though I’m not digging the ones this model pairs with them), or for a cool fall night event. At $795 it’s not exactly in my current budget, but with its demur length and coverage, along with the sexy leather and front-zip details, I think it’s a forever piece.

.....and while I'm at it on my non-budget friendly list...every bag-obsessed bitch knows that a red Chanel classic can really never ever ever do any wrong we'll throw her on our shoulder and forget we have no money now for her to hold....

....and well let's be honest, if I'm rockin' a Red Chanel Lambskin classic...if I'm sporting a bare leg with this dress, I think it's a no brainer that I choose these red soles to match my Chanel....

......these shoes will also double as switch blades for when I'm walking around downtown in this outfit and I somehow stand out as a target to be mugged....:-)
